Detail Review: ‘Tamil Rockerz’ was not as good as the hype and ruckus created

Detail Review: After watching the web series “Tamil Rockers” released on Sony Liv, it is realized that an attempt has been made to make a story of a policeman on the infamous website Tamil Rockers. Tamil Rockerz is a web series inspired by a true incident. The series was widely publicized and since the original series was made in Tamil and based on a story from pirated movie markets originating from Chennai, there was a lot of buzz on the internet as well.

When its Hindi version was released on Sony Liv, it was seen by a lot of people but they were a bit disappointed to see it, because it could have turned out to be a great thriller story but seeing the way the story has been blown away in the last 2 episodes Looks like the backstory of Tamil rockers should have been shown more. However, the series is good, let’s see.

The craze for films in Tamil Nadu is more than devotion. Stars do not have fan clubs but temples. Many film stars took the step towards politics and became successful too. From MG Ramachandran to Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and now Ajith Kumar, Vijay or Dhanush; It is difficult to guess the craze of the audience towards everyone. A book can be written on the anecdotes related to Rajinikanth’s life and taking out a procession on the first day first show of any Tamil film, going to the theater with musical instruments, anointing with milk on a 100 feet high cut out of a film star Performing, worship before the film starts and then applause, whistles, dancing and showering of coins on the screen after the film starts.

Due to this craze, many times the minds of the producers and directors have reached the seventh heaven and they have also treated the new artists badly. Due to one such anecdote, a person who sold pirated DVDs and wanted to work in films had vowed that he would not allow any film of that producer to run. For this, he creates a website along with his friends – Tamil Rockers. Every new movie on this website was made available for free to download and watch. His acquaintances used to play the film in a theater located in a remote corner the night before its release and record the film playing on the screen with a digital camera. People all over the world can download and watch it.

The filmmakers started suffering because of this. Some daring producers together appealed to the government and with the help of the police started a campaign to nab the founders of Tamil rockers. For many years, Tamil rockers evaded the police and ran their web sites in different ways, using computers and the Internet with art. After all, the police also understood the computers and slowly started tightening the noose on them. Tamil rockers were finally caught. Although the web site of Tamil Rockers was shut down, many more web sites started doing the same thing on their lines.

Due to so many strings being entangled in each other and explaining each story separately, so little screen time is given to the original story that we forget what the real purpose of Tamil Rockerge was. The story was about boys selling pirated DVDs and CDs in Chennai’s Burma market, who angrily created a torrent website and uploaded digital prints of every new film for free. That story is shown in a very small way throughout the series. In the web series on crime, how crime happens or how a person started his crime business and where did he take it, these things should have been shown in detail.

Tamil Rockers tries to focus on Rudra’s anger stemming from the abduction and murder of police officer Rudra (Arun Vijay) and his wife, then her. Arun is a good actor and has played his character well but this cannot be the original story. The reality is that Tamil rockers were loved by the general public in real life because because of them they could download and watch every new movie and save money on tickets/popcorn/cold drinks. In this series, he has been described as almost a villain and a wrongdoer. It is true, but keeping the thinking of the general public sidelined, the series gets cut off from the audience.

Tamil Rockers had high expectations from VJ Sabu Joseph’s editing but what will the editing do when the script itself is messed up. The editing is still good as the thrill remains in many scenes. Running towards the climax, when Rudra goes to raid the hideout of Tamil Rockers and finally arrests them, the entire sequence is a marvel of great editing. Cinematographer B Rajasekhar’s work is also excellent, especially in the dark scenes of the night, he has kept the pace of the series with the camera in the scenes inside the theatre, farm house rooms and chase sequences with the help of amazing lighting. Arivalgan’s direction also seems fine.

As long as the focus of the story remains on the hackers, the story remains interesting. As soon as the story starts focusing on the film producers and their back story, the story starts getting boring. In Hansal Mehta’s 1992 series – Harshad Mehta Story, the focus was placed on Harshad Mehta’s way of working and as Harshad grew to become a bigger man, his attitude and behavior changed, keeping the story interesting. . Showing the back story of Tamil Rockerz in a very small way did not give the audience a chance to connect with the story. Because of this, this long web series has become a bit cumbersome. It takes some patience to watch, the rest of the series is entertaining.
