Convincing Grumpy Mother-in-law: In this tradition, on the day of Makar Sankranti, the daughter-in-law celebrates her angry mother-in-law. For this, a plan is made in advance and the mother-in-law gets upset and sits on the side of a well, pond or road outside the village. Then the daughter-in-law of the house goes to celebrate the mother-in-law by singing songs with her friends of the neighborhood, taking sesame-peanut Gajak, laddoos, clothes, decorations and Dakshina, and honoring the mother-in-law by giving the goods, dancing and singing- Brings her back home by persuasion. However, this tradition is performed only on the day of Sankranti.

Filling the pocket of the brother-in-law: In this tradition too, on the day of Makar Sankranti, the daughter-in-law of the house fills the pocket of her husband’s younger brother i.e. brother-in-law’s pants with peanuts, Gajak, Rabdi, dry fruits, fruits etc. Then on the 14th of every month, the pockets are filled with different things. After doing this for 11 months, on the next Makar Sankranti, the brother-in-law is completed by giving clothes, sesame-jaggery, Gajak, sweets and etc.
Makar Sankranti Traditions: Lakshmi’s blessings are received by sweeping outside the house in the dark in the morning on Makar Sankranti.
Street sweeping: This practice is also in the account of daughters-in-law. In this, the daughter-in-law of the house has to sweep the road outside the house in the morning in the dark. This has to be done daily for a whole year. By doing this, Lakshmi resides in the house and wealth and prosperity comes throughout the year. After starting this tradition, the daughter-in-law of the house donates pulses-rice, sesame-jaggery, peanuts, sarees and clothes to the cleaning staff on Makar Sankranti next year.
Washing husband’s toe: In a tradition on Makar Sankranti, the daughter-in-law washes her husband’s toe at home. He has to do this every 14th of the year. After this, Gajak-peanuts, clothes, silver toe rings etc. come from the daughter-in-law’s maternal house on the next year’s Sankranti and this process is complete.
Washing the mouth of little girls: In this, the faces of small girls present in the house like sister-in-law’s daughter, sister-in-law’s daughter etc. have to be washed. This has to be done daily or on the 14th of every month. After that, next year, on Makar Sankranti, by feeding the girls, they have to donate clothes, Gajak etc. along with gold earring or earrings.
