Rice and diabetes patients: According to the World Health Organization, 422 million people worldwide are suffering from diabetes. India also has a significant number of diabetic patients. When the amount of glucose in the blood starts increasing, then the disease of diabetes occurs. Actually, sugar reaches the body and gets converted into carbohydrates and carbohydrate converts into glucose and reaches the blood from where it is transported to all the cells of the body. Most of the cells convert glucose into energy whereas the cells of liver, muscle etc. store glucose by converting it into glycogen. This glycogen is used as fuel in the body.

The problem occurs when too much carbohydrate from food starts going into the body. For this, a hormone called insulin becomes active in the pancreas and starts absorbing the excess amount of glucose. If insulin decreases due to any reason, then glucose starts accumulating in the blood and diabetes disease occurs. This is the reason why people suffering from diabetes have to avoid sugary things. Carbohydrate is also found in rice. So should diabetic patients not eat rice? This question remains in the mind of most of the people.
